At WFL, we believe that access to education is a fundamental right of every child hence the importance of education as a means of enhancing the livelihood of children in a quest to grow the leaders of tomorrow, whilst tackling poverty as a hinderance to economic development, cannot be overemphasized. Our strategic focus aims to:
Build community schools in rural community areas home to vulnerable children. Provide donations that support wellbeing and health of vulnerable children and rural communities. Sponsor the vulnerable girl child with access to education & schooling essentials through strategic partnerships.
#RoadtoMwalukanga2021
In December 2020, we identified Mwalukanga Village situated in Chongwe district of Zambia (Leopards Hill Road) as being in need of support. WFL led a ‘Christmas Donation Drive’ alongside some of our partners Pick n Pay Zambia, Zambeef Plc, Californian Beverages Ltd and Pembe Mills Zambia to provide donations of both food and schooling essentials to the rural community home to vulnerable children. Our aim in 2021 is to build a school for the community as currently the nearest school to the village is 10km away at Mikango Baracks. Empowering the children of Mwalukanga village with a school will take a huge combined effort. Read more at (inert hyperlink to documents).

WFL HAVE BEGAN CONSTRUCTION OF THE MWALUKANGA MATERNITY WARD COURTESY OF DEBONAIRS ZAMBIA FOR PHASE ONE
Early this year WFL partnered with Debonairs Zambia, who have donated K150,000 as we have embarked on another journey to construct a maternity ward in response to the plight of women in Mwalukanga having to walk 20km to the nearest health facility. On the 3rd of June 2023, we successfully had our ground breaking ceremony for the maternity ward that, will not only cater to the Mwalukanga community but to three other villages that surround it. Furthermore, the village has over 200 women of child bearing age and we as WFL believe that no woman must die from child birth as access to health care is a fundamental human right. We further understand that quality menstrual and sanitary healthcare is a major factor in safe pregnancies and deliveries as well as positive patient experience.

On Wednesday the 26th of June, the (WFL) office team visited Mwalukanga Village to officially launch the EmpowerHer initiative. This program aims to support girls aged 12-21 who have left school due to early marriages and pregnancies. The initiative is focused on providing these young women with the resources, education, and support they need to reclaim their futures.
The EmpowerHer initiative is set to make a significant impact on the lives of young girls in Mwalukanga and the surrounding villages. We look forward to our continued collaboration with the community and the positive changes this program will bring.
