On Saturday 19, December 2020, as part of the pillar, ‘Uplifting Vulnerable Children’, the When Females Lead team spent the day in Mwalukanga Village (which has a small local community school), approximately 51km from Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia working with women and young children, as part of the ‘When Females Lead Christmas Drive’. WFL have a strong desire to make a positive impact in our communities by giving back. Christmas is a time for giving, and being able to serve our communities is important for When Females Lead. It is truly said that ‘when you empower a woman, you empower a village’. What we did during our visit, spending time with the women and young children in Mwalukanga was a testament to that. We also empowered approximately 150 women with food and non-food essentials that will support them during the festive season. In addition, we donated schooling essentials to approximately 150 children to get them ready for the academic year January 2021. The support we extended towards Mwalukanga village and community school was approximately K30,000 which consisted donations from When Females Lead and from individuals and various organisations and companies including Zambeef, Pick n Pay, Californian Beverages, House of cakes, Amigo Foods Limited, Pembe milling, Chechs bookclub, Mukwema Mwansa photography and the Quorum. To all of our sponsors and donors, thank you for generous contribution to the When Females Lead Christmas Drive.
